I am not really sure how I stay so motivated to workout and continue down my path of living a healthy lifestyle. Maybe it’s because of the nature of my job and the camera adding 10lbs combined with me having a very curvy frame naturally. When I was young I was a gymnast who lived in the gym. I trained for hours and I loved it. It was my life. I also was very much a tomboy who loved to climb trees and play sports with the boys, I was one of them. As I got older I worked out and kept up with regular exercise because I have always had big legs and was very self conscious of them. Looking back I have always maintained a pretty high level of activities to keep fit. It wasn’t until about 2005 when I got a membership to the gym and began training with a trainer. I instantly was hooked. Although it’s only been in the last few years that I have been more serious and only this last year and half that I’ve really been working on my eating habits. It was so hard for me to believe that I had to “diet” or eat healthy to keep my body the way exercise alone was working all these years. So here I am presently with a whole different outlook and perspective on being healthy and I’m ready to help motivate, encourage, advise or help you in anyway I can, to enjoy a lifestyle that entails being healthy for the long run. I can speak and give testimony from a curvy women’s perspective. I fight the temptations of wanting to eat the wrong things every day and I constantly have to work on my body to keep in shape. I know there are millions of you out there female and male who can relate. I struggle, fall off, get back on, get discouraged and fail just like everyone else. It’s all about not giving up. Fighting for what you ultimately want what makes for a better healthier happier life! I stopped writing for a while and I wish I didn’t. I miss it this is therapy for my soul as well as hopefully encouragement for you. I have so much to talk about when It comes to this topic I look forward to giving you more.

I went to the gym late at night last night I’m usually a morning workout person but I was on my second one for the day. I will always maintain a high level of intensity on my workouts because I am what they call a “workout” junkie but I also indulge in the things I love one of them being food. Work hard to play hard!!! That’s how the saying goes right. So after a few days off from my normal healthy eating and exercise it was time to get back on track. Shakes and chicken/fish and veggies! A few two a days and I’ll be feeling better about my poor choices I made over those few days. I don’t know if I actually gain or loose any lbs in all this madness but this is my idea of me obsessing. So I was at the gym late and got a pretty good workout in. I ran for 20 min with a very small incline then I rode the spin bike for 20 min with high reps maintained and light to med weight. I am not trying to bulk my huge legs any more then they already are. Some abs and push ups and I was ready to go not a bad 2nd run for the day. I decided to sit in the sauna and let my muscles loosen up some. When I got in there I noticed this asian man who was so thin and frail looking he was sitting down but after only a few minutes he got up and walked out. Half in my own zone have paying attention to everyone around me (I’m a people watcher) I noticed this same super thin guy walking into the steam room and a few minutes coming out and sitting out side looking like he was going to pass out. Still not totally paying attention I needed some air myself so I stepped out of the sauna for a min some one sprayed eucalyptus spray and I could barely breath. As I was coming out the Asian gentleman asked me “do you know which one you loose more weight in?” that’s when it all sunk in. He had a problem something serious was going on with him my heart dropped and I couldn’t help but say something. I asked him what he was trying to loose weight for and he avoided my question at first but when I asked again and he saw I wasn’t backing down he answered that he looked fat and just wanted to loose a little. wtf he was frail and beyond thin standing next to me he must have thought I was a porker. We chatted for a few minutes and I tried to encourage him that he looked good and could even afford to gain a few lbs but I understand this disease isn’t that easy to over come. The part that got to me was when he told me I looked very in shape and he wished he could have a body like mine. That was interesting to me. Someone so thin could look at someone like me and not feel like they do when looking at them selves. Self image is huge. Part of fitness and health for me is that I feel great about myself. I’ll never be “skinny” and there will always be the guys who like thin girls who will look at me as fat. That doesn’t even affect me. I am as healthy as can be. I maintain a sensible diet and exercise regularly along with keeping a active lifestyle. So what I’m shaped this way. I am the way I am because God made me this way. Exercise makes you feel good Mind body and soul!!!
Getting back into the swing of things after a holiday is always hard. Finding motivation to work out in general is hard for most so how do you get back into that groove after a few days off of vacation??? It’s not easy if anyone says it is they are lying! For those who don’t regularly exercise you will have the hardest time showing up for a workout. From my experience once you get into a routine of working out after a few months its second nature and you just don’t feel right without it. So the first step is the short term motivation, some of you may need a trainer or a workout partner. What is motivating you to read this blog now? One question that is asked all the time is where do I get this drive to stay working out everyday to stay trying to better myself and the answer is simple. I understand the benefits of maintaining a healthier lifestyle. I used to abuse my body when I was younger I wasn’t getting enough proper nutrition and I wasn’t sleeping regularly or exercising at all. I also started drinking coffee and needed energy boots and started feeling frumpy. So when I decided about 6 years ago that I was going to start exercising I still was eating bad and getting no results from my workouts. That’s when I met Marvin! Now Marvin loves to brag to this day about how he got me where I am today and I always deny it but the truth of it is, his passion about health and exercise got my wheels spinning and I shortly jumped aboard the health train. Over the years I have evolved into being more and more wanting and willing to be healthy. Now I find satisfaction in helping others feel good about themselves. Its not about being the perfect size it’s about how you feel about yourself inside and out. So don’t expect to go change anything overnight its a process. Take one step at a time. As for working out after a holiday or a break the answer is simple just show up!!! What I mean by that is just that. Don’t think about are you going to be able to workout hard or how you feel after consuming what ever you probably shouldn’t have just show up and do your best. I often find that even when I don’t feel like working out once I get there Im gonna get a pretty good workout in. So the answer isn’t something complicated !! Just go!!! Show up… and once your there do your best!! Take a class or a workout partner if you need to!
In this clip I will show you two exercises I like to do back to back. Leg rolls and ball passes these are great for both men and women. Leg rolls strengthen your hamstrings and glutes, its also a great balance exercise. Basically you want to lay flat on your back put your heels on the ball and thrust your hips in the air creating a nice straight line. As you pull the ball towards your butt you raise your hips higher squeezing your gluteus together. Roll the ball out and repeat 20x’s. Then go straight into ball passes. This exercise is great because it works the entire core and you really have to contract the abs to stabilize the body as you pass the ball from the hands to the feet and back again. Start by making sure your back is flat on the ground and put the ball between your feet slowly lower the ball towards the ground the same time you are lowering your arms over your head to the ground. When you come back up really contract your abs grab the ball with your hands and again lower both legs and arms towards the ground and back up.Repeat 20x Rest for 30 seconds and then do both exercises again back to back, rest for 30 seconds and repeat a third time. If you can’t do 20 don’t stress work up to it. Start with 5 and do those for a couple days and work your way up to sets of 8 then 10 and so forth. Exercising is about growth the very first time you do something it’s going to be hard and you may think you can’t do it but you can. You just have to want to do it.
I’ve decided to start this blog about fitness, health and nutrition because it’s such a huge part of my life and I know there are a lot of people out there who can relate to my story. So many of us in the world not only Americans struggle to have the body we desire. It’s tuff nowadays with all the temptations and easy access garbage food, not to mention the get slim quick fixes that are advertised everywhere. I am not going to feed you a bunch of lies and tell you it’s an easy road because it’s not, being in shape is hard work. It’s much easier to be unhealthy but the benefits outweigh the effort 100 x’s over in my opinion. This blog was created to help inspire you to find the motivation you have within yourself to give YOU the best quality life possible. The better you take care of yourself the happier you will be guaranteed. If my words can motivate even one person to start making healthier choices then I have succeeded!! I hope you enjoy my writings and are able to take from them and apply it to your own life. Together we can grow and evolve to become more and more healthy!!!
